We have a New Assistant Coach!

Looking to build on the coaching structure this season, St James Malvern Valley Cricket Club is thrilled to announce the appointment of Alex Kerr to the role of Assistant Coach for the 2017/18 season. Alex will support Rohan in administering training sessions, teaching and improving player techniques as we strive towards on field success.

Alex began his cricketing career playing Juniors at North Dandenong CC. In 2011 he was awarded the inaugural Indigenous Cricket Scholarship by The Lord’s Taverners Australia. He then played five seasons for North Melbourne CC as an opening batsman, reaching Premier Firsts in the 2014/15 season. Most recently Alex played for Dandenong CC, while also competing in the National Indigenous Cricket Championships.

Like Rohan, he is coming off a high after winning the Championships this year representing Victoria. Speaking with Alex after his appointment he says, “I am super keen to be a part of this club in the new role of Assistant Coach and can’t wait to get going!” So are we Alex!

New Coach for 2017/18 Season

St James Malvern Valley Cricket Club is excited to announce the appointment of Rohan Best as Head Coach for the 2017/18 season.

Rohan is coming off a high from winning the National Indigenous Cricket Championships for Victoria where he played and acted as Assistant Coach. Prior to this, Rohan played Premier cricket for Kingston Hawthorn CC. Having grown up in Shepparton, he then moved to Melbourne and played football for St Paul’s in the SFL.

We are delighted to have Rohan on board and are counting down the days to Pre-Season!

Pink Stumps Day 2017

On 26th February, St James Malvern Valley Cricket Club held a pink themed afternoon  raising money for the fantastic McGrath Foundation.

Amongst the pink there was a bbq lunch, afternoon tea, games, face painting and a raffle with a number of wonderful prizes!

And of course there was the highly anticipated social cricket match between the Captain’s XI and the President’s XI. Everyone was welcome to play, with the Captain’s XI prevailing in controversial circumstances!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along this year! We managed to raise an awesome total of:

$1,103.70

More than $800 was raised on the day itself and the remainder came through separate donations. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated. It was great to see the club getting together to support the fantastic McGrath Foundation!

Basil Bombers win Premiership!

Our Basil Bombers netball team won its Grand Final against the Monstars avenging the defeat in last season’s Grand Final!

The team, captained by Samantha Muller, put in a fantastic performance in a close game with the final score 22-20. Anita Streat was awarded Best on Ground by the umpires of the Hawthorn Mixed Netball Competition for her amazing defensive efforts which largely negated one of the best shooters in the competition.

Hopefully the efforts of our netball team will act as inspiration to our cricket sides as the 2015/16 season approaches.
